Tuition for a private four-year college can cost you about $30,000, and you will have to spend four years studying to earn your degree. For many people, the prospect of spending the next four years in class is less than appealing. What's more, many can't afford the tuition and/or need to start making money - good money - right away. If that applies to you, you're in luck. Several well-paying trades require minimal education, which means you will spend less in tuition and can start earning faster than those who take the four-year path. Following are three well-paying fields that require minimal school time.

Cosmetologists work in salons and spas, making people feel beautiful. With a cosmetology degree, you can work in the following positions: hair stylist, hair colorist, makeup artist, nail technician, esthetician, platform designer, beauty educator, and others. On average, you can expect to spend 12 months in a cosmetology program, depending on which state you live in and hour many hours you attend per week. It will cost you between $5,000 and $10,000, and you can expect to earn an average of $26,000 plus tips as an entry-level stylist.

Commercial Driver

A commercial driver's license allows you to drive a wide variety of commercial vehicles, depending on the class of the license you receive. A Class A CDL course takes seven weeks and allows you to operate a great variety of vehicles, including semi trucks, straight trucks, dump trucks, buses, etc. You can expect to spend between $3,000 and $7,000 for the program. Some programs will even train you for free as long as you agree to drive for their company for a designated amount of time. In your first year, you can expect to earn $41,000 your first year and about $66,000 per year after that.

HVAC Technician

HVAC technicians work in the heating and cooling industry, repairing residential and commercial heating and cooling systems. Training to be an HVAC technician can take as little as six months and will usually cost less than $1,000 to complete. On average, HVAC technicians earn a little more than $42,000 per year.

As you can see, there are several well-paying trades that don't require a lot of education. This list is just the tip of the iceberg. There are dozens to choose from. All you have to do is decide what career path is right for you.
